The Cat Chronicles Day 2: Kitten Temptations

When I woke from my extended catnap, the wrinkly one was mewling again. She was so focused on the rock sitting on top of the giant scratching post, she seemed to have forgotten I was there. Well, no matter.

…I had important kitty business to attend to anyway.

Claws now in a state of perfection, I felt the urge to show them off to the little golden morsel. He really ought to know who he’s dealing with, now that kitty’s in the house.

He is still smug as ever, peering down with his bug-eyes from his watery domain. Curse you, golden morsel, for being so high!

I shall have to opt for the easier food option… for now.

I can’t help but notice something wonderful! I want to hunt this feathered creature, but…

…It is also too high! Is nothing in this place within my paws’ reach? What a terrible place for a kitten! Temptations around every corner, but it’s impossible to do anything without longer legs!

At least the rug is fair game. Aah, finally, something to play with that’s within easy reach! I revel in leaving my fur all over it.

Rolling around on the rug was incredibly taxing work. It was time for a catnap in the afternoon sun on the porch.

After my nap, the wrinkly two-legger had returned from digging around in the leafy things outside. She had food, which I found more interesting than anything else going on at that moment. But the only scraps she dropped were green and leafy. Ugh. Clearly this human needs trained about proper foodstuffs.

She seemed to think that I was going to amuse her. Ha! What a notion. She has a lot to learn about cats.

I made sure to let her know just who is in charge around here. She was clearly terrified of my large, dominant stature and hunter’s prowess!

Wait… what is this? Small, looks crunchy, but smells fishy… No, it couldn’t be! Does she have… Whiskas Temptations kitty treats?

…I fall for it. My dominant display falls apart the second the wrinkly one has treats in her hand, and she strokes her wrinkly hand down my back while I’m distracted with eating the tempting delicacies.

Then she suddenly begins to mewl again.

And this time, for some reason, I let her pet me, no treats required.

    • “I wish they’d do less of that important kitty business…” grumbled every cat owner ever as they look at the scratched up furniture on their way to empty the litter box…

Heh, Shadow actually has the Aggressive trait, so it did take quite a bit of time (and treats) to get him to warm up to Rose. What’s odd is that at the point I’m at now in the story I kinda forget that he even has that trait, he acts so tame! (Except towards dogs, but ya know… they have it coming.)

  2. Aww, glad to see Shadow settling into his new home. Hope that he’ll be a comfort to her newly widowed human.

    • My furry nephew will stretch out and tap the kitchen drawer where the Temptations are kept… even though my sister moved them to on top of the fridge ages ago. Because that is the sign, “Temptations now please!” It always works, whenever he stretches his whole body out and reaches up to tap the drawer, like a well-trained two-legger she gives him a treat. He has her *so* well trained!

This is such a great read. It’s the first simlit I’ve read told from the perspective of an animal. The internal dialogue is exactly as I’d always imagined they think.

  8. This is so cat-like. I can totally see my cat acting like this. It sounds like a genuine cat voice. You are talented. I’m enjoying the internal dialogue. :) Aww… poor human.

    • I’ve tried really hard to stay consistent with Shadow’s tone and his particular style of “cat-speak,” heh. I do hear this certain voice for him in my head, and though I didn’t think about it at the time at all, I think it was subconsciously inspired by the years in my childhood I spent watched the Garfield and Friends animated show where Garfield was voiced by Lorenzo Music, where he just had this certain snarky tone, while remaining sounding very flat and unafflicted by everything!

I felt so bad when the little guy couldn’t reach anything lol. Good thing for the goldfish, though!

    • Ya, I found myself a bit frustrated with the lack of interactions Sims 3 gives kittens. They can’t hop on furniture or even go up and down staircases! After learning this nugget of information, I will probably have to have a one-story house if I ever do a 100 Kitten Challenge in the future, hahaha!

Aw this little guy is so cute! I love reading this so much. It manages to tug at my heartstring, too, I love how he notices his owner’s grief but doesn’t quite understand what it is. It is sweet.

    • Animals always seem to have that special sense of knowing that something is “wrong” — even if they don’t know what that “wrong” is — and offering comfort, and I’ve always found that quite astounding. Even my bird is dead quiet on says I have migraines. It is amazing how they just seems to know how to give us the healing we need when we need it.

The cat-voice and the sarcastic, self-centered, food-loving attitude is perfection! I loved the part with the cat looking for things to hunt, and the part with the treats. And the ending was sad and sweet.
