The Cat Chronicles Day 35: A Fine Day for a Date

What do you mean, there is no cold white stuff outside? Why just yesterday I had to get my paws wet just to chase a mutt off our lawn–

No, no, of course I believe you, my Queen. This comfy spot wasn’t that comfy anyway…

Oh hey there, Wrinkly One! So uh, me and the Missus were just going to head out and enjoy the sun… you don’t mind taking care of two energetic kittens, do you? No? I didn’t think so. Oh, just so you know, I think Two-Paw discovered how to pull down the white papery stuff next to the giant water bowl, and Three-Paw found the nice-smelling mouse again, so he’s a bit bitey and isn’t going to want to nap for a while.

…Gotta run, don’t want to waste this nice weather!

Without the kits underfoot, it’s just the two of us for a while, my Queen.

How about a castle for the lady?

Up here, Spotted Queen! It’s so… nice and cozy in here, if you get my purr.

…Wait, what’s that I spy down there?

Ooooooh… a plaything! Can’t… resist… must… bat… with… paws…!

Mfph?! Uh… Of course I was waiting for you! I would never get distracted by a small round object that is easy to knock about! Don’t be silly!

…So maybe the castle wasn’t the best idea. I didn’t know there would be sneaky playthings! But I know a much better plaything… mrwahaha…

Oh you coy thing you! Prepare yourself for incoming kitty– wait, there’s a lizard!?

What clever eyes you have, my Queen. Remember the first gift I brought you? …Just you wait.

I’d better not screw this up, or she’ll never let me live it down… you’re a respectable hunter, don’t go bird-mode just because the lady is watching this time!

Victory! And tonight, we shall dine on fresh lizard!

The afternoon’s activities had left us both quite ready for a catnap. Despite the lack of white stuff, the air was still chilly… a perfect excuse to snuggle up and share the warmth of my Queen. It was pleasant, even if she does kick in her sleep. Not that I’d ever tell her that.

All refreshed and ready to head home, I took one look at my lady-cat and could tell she was thinking the same thing as me. Oh, meow. Isn’t it a bit early to be in season? Not that I’m complaining…

But then when we got home to our special cozy place… a stray! How dare a stray desecrate our breeding place with their smells!

Hey! Heeeeeeeey! Get out of there!

Oh… and it was a male, too! No… nooooooooooo!

Oh, that really arches my back and flattens my ears! …And kills the mood. I’m sorry my Queen. I’ll have to take you up on that offer some other time… Sigh.

I was surprised to see that Seasons can have some freak weather patterns, as an overnight rain shower washed out all the snow and there was an unseasonably warm winter day in Appaloosa Plains. Reminds me of the weird weather we get here sometimes… we had snow the last week of March and weather in the 70s a few days later!

I love those freak weather patterns in TS3 and how each year can be different than the last! I remember some winters when snow never did come, and some years when it came in fall! Such a nice touch!

Looks like I’m starting here and reading backwards! Really enjoyed this, Mastress!

    • In my other story, I recall winter was unending snow pretty much every day, so I guess I was just really surprised by this sudden sunny winter day! Definitely a nice touch.

The story has some bits of chonology I suppose (given how time flows in The Sims) but overall is very much designed to be very episodic. Not super plot-heavy and the parts are kept pretty short and light-hearted with lots of cat humor, heh.

Though now that stray intrigues me. :o

    • I’ve had some trouble in my game for a while now where my animals can’t interact with strays, and I have no idea why. If I reset the lot/town the problem “fixes” itself but never stays so I don’t know what the root cause is, and considering the random nature of strays appearing, it’s been hard to test. Even here the stray de-manifested from the lot before I was able to get the cats back and try to see if the interactions were working again… but what I found odd is it did look a lot like the stray from the October short story I wrote (the bedtime story Shadow told the kittens about the white witches kitten!) I’m wondering if the game pulled him from my bin to generate the stray! I have the gnome out to try to cause them to come around more often, but it still seems to be a shot in the dark if they actually stop by or not… especially at hours when Rose might try to snag herself another kitty, Extreme Cat Lady that she is. ^_^;;

They might have? I think the sims sometimes steals clones of other sims and pets…or that could just be me making patterns where non are to describe a random event.

      • I know Nraas Story Progression has some settings that are supposed to allow you to set immigration to be randomly generated rather than using Sims from the bin (or at the very least, using them for genetic mixing without simply dropping an entire clone from your bin into town) and I was fairly sure I had those settings on, but it’s been a while since I’ve dug through the gazillionty SP settings… and I have no idea if they are even applicable to pets. Even with genetic blending on, sometimes it can roll another Sim that is a near clone of one parent rather than the other (Shadow’s kittens *cough*) so I wouldn’t be too surprised if that really was the product of the witch’s white kitten saved in my bin, somehow.

Another lovely chapter, I’m sorry Queenie, that your day didn’t go exactly as planned. But looks like you have a wonderful day regardless. And Shadow…you are awesome, a lizard! Well caught!

lol. Good thing you didn’t make a fool of yourself in front of the mate Shadow! Too bad your day out ended up being pretty frustrating.

On the note of sims from bins – I know for a fact that the game will steal people from the bin (I had a very distinct Fairy sim show up in a game a couple years after I’d created her. I don’t remember if I had NRAAS at the time though, so no help on that front. sorry. :P )

    • I noticed that same stray reappear last time I was in that save, but again, the game de-spawned it before I could possibly try to click the stray for information or interact with it or anything. I seem to be a bit cursed with this one… I really just want a better look to see if it is indeed a doppelganger from my Halloween short story kitten! I always catch him out of the corner of my eye and then he disappears, like a ninja…

    It’s cracked me up LOL.
Out of the context : but glad to see Mi is not the only cat who enjoy sleeping in dog house, I can’t stop laughing such it’s surreal.
And by the way for the weather pattern, sometimes it’s strange, lighting strokes everywhere, rain on snow, rainy summers , rain and etc but what I love it.Something I am not use to see here where I live.

    • We get some very strange weather here in southern Idaho in the US sometimes, so I was surprised to see it in Sims 3!

Shadow does get quite protective of his comfy places. ^_^

Typically cat, protective to death in real life , except my own game, my simself cat , she is so sweet as a plushie. She’s friendly with everybody.I know I am mad with that cat and with pets in that game in general.I don’t play a realistic game.About the weather pattern,I ignore where you live you experience the same . It’s not so funny when you got huge hails with rain in the same time often. It could happen here in the French Riviera with very small balls.I notice the sims 3 are influenced by some places but I can’t define where they took inspirations.I never traveled.Except on Champs-les-Sims that’s so typical of what you found out near here.
