The Cat Chronicles Day 44: Kitty Charm

Oh, kittens. So quickly you have become so big and strong! It wasn’t all that long ago that you were far too small to reach the high places, but now your climbing and jumping abilities are starting to finally shine, and those playthings that were once an impossibility are now within the paw’s grasp…

However, kittens, with this ability also comes great consequence…

For you see, kittens, two-leggers seem to have very different ideas than us felines about what things make fine playthings, and what things don’t. Now, the best thing to do, is to get your tail-side out of there as quickly as possible once you sense danger…

Uh-oh, Two-paw. You were not fast enough! That is a bad position indeed!

If your two-legger starts looking like they just tasted sour milk…

…And especially if their fur stands on end and they start hissing loudly…

…There is an important kitty tactic for just such a situation! It can work for any cat, but is especially useful for kittens! Here, I will teach you!

First, you give them a look that looks cute and innocent, as if to say, “What? Why, I haven’t the slightest idea what you could be so upset about. I’m just a cat, after all.”

Oh, that’s pretty good, Two-paw! You might be a natural at this!

Then, add in a dismissive grooming, further adding to your innocence in the whole affair. “I’m not up to anything. Just a cat, grooming my fur. Don’t I look cute today?”

Very good, Two-paw! Just lick that paw as if there is butter between every claw!

You see that? The wrinkly one is already submitting to your kitty charms!

Now don’t grin too much, Two-paw. It’s important that the two-leggers don’t realize we have a system, you see. If they knew they were being played, this tactic would lose its effectiveness…

No, Three-paw, don’t…!

…It is too late.

Quickly, son, engage the cute and innocent look! And I hope for your sake you are as gifted at it as your sister, because the wrinkly one really likes her leafy things…

…Oh, that is pretty good. Even a little belly up action, I like it!

But will it work on the wrinkly one?

She’s making that face where she imitates a fish with her mouth, you are safe this time, Three-paw!

Well… mostly safe. There are, after all, still those aforementioned consequences that come from playing with the wrong playthings. I am so sorry, kittens.

I don’t think any amount of kitty charm is going to save you from the white beast this time.

  3. I can’t stop laughing this chapter is so funny. I love the way Shadow teach two and three -paw of rusing to avoid bath and to avoid all the annoying things two-leggers often does to cats.
Shadow your advices are right with the poor old Rose but I don’t think they work everytime with younger two-leggers. Only Toddlers can learn from you.

    • Me too. I’m on vacation and was shopping at the big Portland Saturday Market, and a vendor had home-grown catnip filled toys at a stall… I had to pick one up for my fur-nephew… it’s terrible! They have us completely under their control! >_<
